The Year of Goat 2015 will be next week and I hope that it's still not too late to do some posting on Chinese New Year snacks and cookies. I am not feeling well these few days, that is why I was unable to post this earlier.

This crispy crab sticks is a heat snack during the festive season as it is very easy to make and yet so delicious. Once you eat, you will never stop eating!

Only one main ingredient needed, the filament crab sticks. Other than that, you will also need some cooking oil for deep fry and some corn flour or corn starch. The corn flour will add crispiness on the snacks.

I bought KAMI brand crab sticks, catering specially to make the crispy crab stick snacks. They are easy to peel. If you cannot find this particular brand, any brand in the market will do.

Ingredients:
  • 1 Packet of frozen filament crab sticks (thawed)
  • 2 Tbsp Corn flour/starch
  • Cooking oil for deep fry



Method:
  • Thawed the crab sticks and peel into thin strips.
  • You may either dry the crab stick strips under the sun or air dry for several hour or put in the preheated oven at 150C for 15 minutes. Give it a toss every 5 minutes for even drying.

  • Take out from the oven and sprinkle the corn flour over the crab sticks through a sieve. Toss it for even coating of the flour.

  • Heat up oil for deep fry. Drop a piece of crab stick in it to test the oil temperature. If should sizzle, float upwards and flatten out instantly.
  • Fry over medium heat in a small batch until light golden.
  • Drain excess oil on paper towel.



  •  Leave to cool completely before storing.
