Simple Number Birthday Cupcakes Cake 数字杯子生日蛋糕
A simple birthday cake that my little helper, Kai Yann and I made for my birthday. The number revealed how old I was celebrated. The number 4 (四 si) in Chinese has the similar pronunciation as Chinese word for 'die' (死 si). So, number 4 is always consider as an unlucky number among the Chinese communities. Nevertheless, this 43 + 1 birthday cake was made for fun instead of superstitious that 44 is not a lucky number.

Japanese Chawanmushi 茶碗蒸
Chawanmushi is a steamed savory egg custard, normally as a hot appetizer at Japanese meal. "Chawan means tea cup or rice bowl and "mushi" means steamed in Japanese. It is customary to have prawns, ginkgo nuts, steamed fish cake, chicken, shiitake mushroom, spring onion in the chawanmushi and seasoned with soy sauce and mirin or sake. Braised Pork Belly 红烧猪腩肉
Pork belly (五花肉 or 猪腩肉) is a boneless cut of fatty meat from the belly of a pig. The pork belly is very popular in Chinese cuisine and it's used in Braised Pork Belly, crispy roast pork, etc.. My Fur Daughter, Zeta @ Mei Mei's 1st - 3rd Birthday
My fur daughter, Zeta is a black Miniature Schnauzer and she was born on the 21th February 2011. My hubby named her Zeta, which means 'girl' in Greek. However, she is more familiar with her nick name "Mei Mei" which means little sister in Chinese.

Korean Sesame Mochi Bread QQ韩式麻磁面包
Mochi is a type of Japanese rice cake made by steaming glutinous rice flour with sugar and water. The steamed dough is then cut into bite-size pieces and shape into a ball or any other shape. It is chewy and sweet. It may be eaten plain or filled up with different fillings of your choice.
Korean also has its own version of mochi, Chapssaltteol or Chapssalddeok or Chapssldduk (찹쌀떡). Korean Sesami Mochi Bread, like any other breads, has to be baked in the oven and not steamed. This type of bread does not need any yeast for proofing. It has a hard but thin crispy crust and inside is soft, chewy and full of black sesame aroma.

Kaya Or Coconut Egg Jam (Express Version) 咖椰
Kaya or Coconut Egg Jam is a very popular food spread in Southeast Asia, mainly Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Kaya is typically spread on toast, eaten in the morning as breakfast (or anytime of the day). The kaya toast is selling in every coffee shops or what we call 'kopitiam' here in Malaysia. Kaya can also be used as a topping for desserts.
There are 3 main ingredients use in kaya, namely coconut milk (also known as santan), eggs (chicken or duck) and sugar. Pandan or screwpine leaves are usually added as a flavouring for its unique taste and aroma. The traditional way of cooking kaya is very tedious and time consuming as you have to stand beside the mixture stirring continuously while cooking for at least 1.5 to 2 hours to avoid from burning.

Chelsea Football Pull-Apart Birthday Cake 切尔西足球俱乐部蛋糕
My second boy, Kai Yann is a core fan of Chelsea Football Club. He has requested to have a birthday cake with football theme for his 12th birthday.
Instead of a normal big cake, I had made a cupcakes cake, or pull-apart cake for him. Instead of cutting from one cake, you just pull off a cupcake. Kai Yann and his friends enjoyed pulling their own cupcake off the birthday cake and this saving me from cutting the cake.

I think most of the children and for adults too, like Oreo cookies. My elder son, Kai Phin is one of them. He has requested to have Oreo cookies in his 14th years old birthday cake. I have search through the recipes in the internet and came across this recipe from 'how to cook that'.
Even though this birthday cake involved quite a lot of works and time but the end result is promising. My boy was very happy and proud to have such a Giant Oreo Birthday Cake. His friends were also delighted to see such a cake in the birthday party.

Hi there, this is the very first posting of my newly created blog, Baking For Cowboys; created especially for me by my dear sons, Kai Phin and Kai Yann. A big, big thank you and kisses to both of them.
Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival or Mooncake Festival is just 2 days away, so I have decided to post a recipe related to this great festival, the traditional Mooncake Biscuit, or Kong Chai Peng 公仔饼 . Most of the mooncake biscuits in the old days were in the shape of piggies and they were all kept and sold in the cute colour plastic basket.
