Mashed Potatoes 马铃薯泥/土豆泥

Mashed Potatoes 马铃薯泥/土豆泥

Mashed potato is a popular side dish in Western meals beside french fries or chips. Mashed potatoes are very simple to prepare. I decided to post it here since this is one of my boys' favourite dishes and this blog is also dedicated to my two beloved boys.

Ingredients:
  • 500 g Potatoes
  • 2Tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 2 - 3 Tbsp Milk
  • Salt, to taste (omit if using salted butter)
  • Pepper, to taste

Method:

  • Wash the potatoes. Peel with a vegetable peeler. Cut the potatoes into even sized pieces. Rinse under cold water.
  • I will normally steam my potatoes for 20 minutes. You may also boil them in a pot of boiling water until tender.
  • When they are cooked through, the fork should easily slide into the potatoes with no resistance.

Note: If the fork meets with any resistance, that means they are not cook completely and there will be little hard pieces of potatoes in the final product.

  • Drain the cooked potatoes.
  • Mash the potatoes until smooth.

Note: If you have a potato masher, wonderful, use it. If not, don't worry, I also use two forks to do the job :)

  • Add in the butter while the potatoes are still warm. Stir until the butter has melted.
  • Add in milk. Mix until combined.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
