I've always liked collecting tasty and easy recipes. This simple and easy twisted version of Apple Crumble (name preferred in the UK, Australia and New Zealand) or Apple Crisp (name preferred in the US and Canada) from A. Liz Adventures, is one of them.
The traditional apple crumble usually consists of cooked apples, but we are using fresh sliced apples in this recipe instead, as it is an easy recipe.
Many different kinds of fruit can be substituted for apples, such as peaches, berries, pears etc..
There are only 3 main ingredients needed in this recipe: apples, a box of yellow cake mix and butter.
Ingredients:
- 2 Apples (I used Gala Apple)
- 1 Box of Yellow Cake Mix (I used Betty Crocker Super Moist Yellow Cake Mix)
- 113 g Unsalted butter
You will also need a pan (8" x 8" or 20cm x 20cm) and non-stick spray.
Method:
- Preheat oven at 180C or 350F.
- Melt the butter.
- Slice apples (or other fruit) and place them in layers at the bottom of a pan that has been coated with non-stick spray (if you like the taste of cinnamon, then you may sprinkle some cinnamon powder on the apple slices).
- Sprinkle the cake mix on top of the sliced apples or your choice of fruit.
- Pour the melted butter over the apples and cake mix.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes or until it is done (when it is nice and bubbly).
- Serve the apple crumble warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Note: If you find that some of your cake mix still looks powdery during baking (or even before baking), you can sprinkle a few tablespoons of water over those areas to ensure thorough baking.
